Save Peverell’s Pounds House from being sold off by the Labour council, say local Lib Dems

Plymouth Liberal Democrats have slammed council plans to auction off one of the city’s most cherished historic buildings – Pounds House, in Peverell – calling on the Labour-run council to reverse the decision. The Central Park building, publicly owned since 1927, is set to be auctioned off within months.

Stuart Bonar, Chair of Plymouth Liberal Democrats, said:

“When Peverell’s Labour councillor Jeremy Goslin stood for election, he told voters about how Pounds House should be used as a library, café and community space. He won that election – and Labour has been in control of the city council now for more than two years. So, have Labour saved Pounds House? No, they haven’t – the Labour-run council is selling it off.”

“What’s worse is that it’s not just Pounds House that the Labour council is putting up for sale, it’s some of the public open space around it too. That is unacceptable.”

“Central Park is a jewel in the city’s crown, and Plymouth Liberal Democrats are totally opposed to the sale of any part of it.”

“One problem we have locally is that too many of our councillors have just been on the council for far too long. Plymouth deserves better.”
