Plymouth Liberal Democrats have blasted the Labour Government after not a single penny has been earmarked for Devon, including Plymouth, or Cornwall in their newly announced £15.6 BILLION transport spending blitz.

The Chancellor announced the bumper spending package with great fanfare on Wednesday, but despite plenty of new money for projects across the North and the Midlands, not a single transport improvement was listed for anywhere in the two South West counties.

Commenting, President of Plymouth Liberal Democrats, Hugh Janes, said:

“When the Conservatives were in power, Plymouth MP Luke Pollard tweeted that ‘a fast and resilient railway will be a priority for the next Labour Government’ and ‘with Labour the South West won’t be cut off or left behind.’ Lovely words, Luke, but why then are there no local projects earmarked in this multibillion-pound transport spending blitz?

“While Middlesbrough is reportedly getting £60 million to extend a station platform, people in Plymouth can’t even seem to get proper bus shelters on Royal Parade!

“Yet again it feels like Labour has forgotten we even exist. As a country, we do need to spend money right across the country, and I congratulate those regions set to see transport improvements. But how can they justify not even 1p for transport projects in Devon or Cornwall?”
