Lib Dem leadership hustings in Plymouth

24 Jun 2019

Whilst the Conservative party horrify the world with their very public shambles of a leadership contest, LibDems brought us their quieter and better quality version at their leadership hustings on last Friday night, 21st June.
The two contestants are Ed Davey and Jo Swinson, introduced by Lord Teverson, and they were speaking to a packed room at the Duke of Cornwall Hotel. Nearly 250 members from around the South West attended.

Lord Teverson officiated for about 90 minutes, with a range of questions from Lib Dem members, some of which were quite deliberately difficult, so Jo and Ed were really put to the test.

Afterwards the meeting broke up into informal chats and photo sessions. Plymouth Lib Dems were able to hear Brussels news direct from Caroline Voaden, our new MEP, and to meet some of the newest Plymouth members.

Most people seemed to come away with the feeling that we have two quite different candidates, but each in their own way quite excellent, and whichever wins, we'll get a good one. We're so much more fortunate than the Conservatives.
