Commenting, Chair of Plymouth Liberal Democrats and the party's candidate in Peverell Stuart Bonar said: "I am proud to be a part of this great team of candidates.

"Together we are offering real change after years of Labour and Conservative control that have left voters feeling frustrated and disappointed. This is an opportunity to elect true local champions who will stand up for their areas and hold the council accountable.

"Labour is making a mess of governing our city and getting so much wrong. We have just seen £7.5 million spent on a new wiggly pavement on Royal Parade, and now buses like the 35 and the 28 no longer even stop there. The Labour-run council spent £5 million of public money on buying a building to house homeless families, but after 18 months the building lies empty. Worst of all, last October the Labour-controlled council sold off more than an acre of Central Park when Pounds House and its gardens were sold at auction. Part of Central Park gone forever.

"If we look at the Conservatives, their legacy in Plymouth includes chopping down more than 100 city centre trees. Voters haven't forgotten it and they shouldn't forgive it.

"It is high time for a fresh start with the Lib Dems.

"In this election, we have three priorities.

"First, we want to see real action to fix Plymouth's roads, for all road users - drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. In LibDem-run Devon County Council they are fixing every pothole on a street, not just the one that was reported. It's proactive repairing like this that will stop our city's roads looking like a neglected farm track.

"Second, we want safer, cleaner streets for everyone. We need action to fix broken pavements and streetlights. The council also needs to get more of the basics right - simple things like picking up more litter to help our city look better.

"Third, Lib Dems will protect our parks and green spaces as well as our trees. As councillors, for example, we would oppose any further moves by Labour to sell off even more of Central Park, and hold them publicly accountable if they try.

"After years of disappointment with Labour and the Conservatives, Plymouth wants change. The Liberal Democrats are that change."

Candidates' profiles will be added to the local party website in the coming days.
