Lib Dems demand action on Mannamead Avenue's “Lake Tudor”

Plymouth Liberal Democrats are calling on Labour-run Plymouth City Council to fix a whopping 1.2 metre by 75 centimetre pothole on Mannamead Avenue that was reported to them four weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.

The crater-like pothole is now so big, and has been there so long, that local Lib Dems say it has earned the right to its own name. They've decided to call it ‘Lake Tudor’, in honour of Labour council leader Tudor Evans whose council seems in no particular hurry to drain it. A Labour-red rubber duck seems already to have moved in [pictured].

According to the Government's own figures, pothole damage costs the average driver around £500 a year in avoidable repairs, a bill Plymouth motorists could well do without.

Richard Bray, Liberal Democrat candidate for Compton in Thursday's Plymouth City Council elections, said: “Our team spotted this a month ago now, but despite being well over a metre across, deep enough for a rubber duck to swim in, and a real danger to drivers and cyclists, it is still there.

“The Government itself says pothole damage costs the average driver around £500 in avoidable repairs. That's £500 potentially out of the pockets of Plymouth families because the Labour-run council can't get this fixed in under four weeks.

“People in Compton deserve a council that gets the basics right, like fixing the roads, keeping streets safe, and turning up for the residents who pay through their Council Tax bills for a service.

“On Thursday, voters in Compton have a chance to send Tudor Evans and this Labour-run council a clear message: stop ducking the issue and start fixing our roads.”

Plymouth Lib Dems are urging anyone who has spotted a pothole in their area to report it via the council's website and to let local Lib Dem campaigners know if, like with Lake Tudor, it goes unfixed.
