Firmer action needed against fly-tipping, say Lib Dems, as council fly-tipping fines hit six-year low

Just 19 fines for fly-tipping were handed out by Plymouth City Council in the first three months of 2025, according to the latest council figures - which go up to the end of March.
This is down almost two-thirds since the same three-month period in 2021, and was the lowest since at least 2019. That year is the earliest one for which council figures are published.
Commenting, Chair of Plymouth Liberal Democrats, Stuart Bonar, said:
"Fly-tipping blights neighbourhoods and can often be dangerous. I cannot for a moment imagine the number of council fines issued is down almost two-thirds since 2021 because fly-tipping has fallen by two-thirds. We need much firmer action on this from the Labour council. We need to see more people who carry out this deeply irresponsible and antisocial practice brought to book. I don’t think many would-be fly-tippers would be deterred after just 19 fines were handed out between January and March this year."
