Council confirmation they haven't looked into a match day residents' parking scheme poses questions for Labour councillor's election campaigning
In the weeks before he was last elected in 2022, Peverell's Labour councillor, Jeremy Goslin, had a lot to say about match day parking problems in Peverell. He talked up a match day residents' parking scheme as a fix for the problems on days when Argyle are playing at home. Four years later, the council has confirmed in writing that no formal assessment of such a scheme has taken place at any time since Councillor's Goslin 2022 election win.
Peverell residents can face parking chaos on match days because their streets aren't part of any controlled parking zones, so fans heading to Home Park can - legitimately - drive into Peverell, park up and cut across Central Park to the stadium. A residents' parking zone that only came into force on match days would stop that happening, meaning residents would be able to park near their homes.
Commenting, local Liberal Democrat campaigner Stuart Bonar said:
"Four years have passed since Councillor Goslin's last election and not only is there no residents' parking scheme on match days here in Peverell but we now have written confirmation from Plymouth City Council that there hasn’t even been a formal assessment of the idea!
"Our question for Councillor Goslin is whether, since he won his election in 2022, he has even asked the council to examine the case for a residents' parking scheme on match days? If not, why not? If he has and nothing has happened, why didn't he try harder?
"Before he was last elected four years ago, the Labour councillor said his party would save Pounds House, but the Labour-run council sold it off. He also spoke a lot back in 2022 about match day parking restrictions to help Peverell residents, but nothing has happened in the four years since. You have to wonder what he's been doing all these years!
"This is an election year here in Plymouth, with Councillor Goslin's term of office coming to an end. It feels to me like it's high time for a change here in Peverell."
